This month I had an extra special story published in Highlights for Children.
A few years back, I flew across the ocean to visit my high school (and-forever-and-always) friend, Sarah. Sarah lives in a pristine apartment on a quaint little canal in the heart of Amsterdam. She was so generous in sharing her corner of the world with me, and now I’m excited to pass a piece of her city along to others through my story, A Surprise for Opa. All the details were inspired by my trip—right down to the “window washer who whistled while he worked.”
As a great-grandchild of Dutch immigrants, I am so grateful to have experienced this beautiful country in person.
