My elementary age daughters, Piper and Raina, are my most enthusiastic writing cheerleaders. When a new magazine arrives, they pour over its pages until they find my name under one of the titles. This month, there was an extra surprise—I used Raina’s name in the story—and she was positively thrilled. This rebus story was published in October’s issue of Clubhouse Jr. with art by Maine Diaz. And although my oldest daughter wondered why I used so many emoji’s, the younger ones love the picture cues to help them read along.
